Hispanic Family Facts: Latina Moms Have More Support from Partners
Research has found that the quality of the relationship between parents is important for the healthy development of children and for the general well-being of mothers. Quality includes the extent to which mothers feel that their child’s co-parent can be trusted to take good care of the child or respect their rules.
Center investigators Elizabeth Karberg and Natasha Cabrera found that most mothers who are low-income report relatively high levels of parenting support from their partner. However, low-income Hispanic mothers report higher levels overall than do their white peers. Their work also shows that in low-income households, fewer foreign-born Hispanic mothers report being depressed than white mothers.
